Goodbye from Magik Bullet

Posted in news at February 17th, 2009 / No Comments »

After just shy of 5 years in the game, it is with great sadness that we announce our last Magik Bullet party for the time being.

We would like to say a huge thanks to everyone that has attended, all of the truly amazing friends that we have made in the process of doing it and to all of the venues that have supported us. Especially Dan at the White Rabbit. Thanks also to those closest to me that have put up with the incessant talking about it all the time.

We worked so hard to build something up in Plymouth when everyone said it couldn’t be done and at times we were the daddies! We never sold out and always tried to push things forward, sticking our necks on the line with artists that no-one else would dare to book because of the risks.

In our time we are proud to have given Plymouth debuts to the following artists: (in no order)

Ctrl Z
Far Too Loud
Future Funk Squad
High Eight
Sick Rick
That Girl DJ
Hoffman & Model 101
Tom Real
2Bit Thugs
High Eight
Matt Brown (Sancho Panza)
Santiago and Bushido
Jnr Hacksaw
Will White (Propellerheads)
We didnt give Ben and Lex their Plymouth debut’s but cheers beys Wink
Thanks again

Damo and Team.

ps. we are still going to keep the website live for music and cool stuff.

We are adding more space for music

Posted in news at February 13th, 2009 / No Comments »

We are definitely not ones to look backwards at Magik Bullet towers and when it comes to the web, we like to think that we are on top of things. One of the main reasons that people visit our site is to download mixes and this is the part that we are improving drastically. We have just bought an extra 50 gigabytes of web space and in plain english, this means that we will be able to provide lots more mix-sets to download.

We will also get to work on uploading as many of the older sets as we can find in order to provide as complete a record as possible of our past 4 1/2 years in the game. Thanks for your support and heres to exciting times ahead.

Set Times

10:00-11:00 – Pimpin’ Disco Dave (Disco and hip-hop)
11:00-12:00 – Poface-Killa (Wonky House)
12:00-01:30 – Damo (Techno and House)
01:30-3:00 – 2Bit Thugs (Pimpin’ Gangster House)
03:00-04:00 – Paradigm (Breaks and Magik Bullet Classics)

Disco Dave is going to warm everyone up with some hip-hop, disco, classics, some house and the kind of the music that you can sip your £1.50 pints to whilst waiting for the club to fill up.

Poface-Killa will be bringing the early evening wonky house to get us all in the mood. He played quite possibly the best set of the night last time round, so we are expecting big things! Did you know DJ Mag said that “Poface-Killa” is probably the best DJ name in the world?

Damo is going to be playing a mixture of house, techno and minimal. He has been to some wicked parties since moving to London and is keen to show you what he has been getting into recently.

The 2Bit Thugs are going to be playing their trademark gangster house, fused with hip-hop. They are playing in Bristol the night before and hopefully they will be feeling fresh and well up for their Plymouth debut. Kissy Sellout is a huge fan of these guys, watch them rise and rise to fame!

Rounding off the night, Paradigm is going to scare all of the late night stragglers away with some disgusting hardcore breakbeat and as a special treat for those of you that stay to the bitter end – the now infamous “1 more tune” (which turns into 3) right at the end.

Oh and here is a quote from an Exeter based 2Bit Thugs fan……

I saw 2bit thugs @ the velvet lounge in Exeter last year, they frickin rocked the place with their dirty sounds. Enjoy it everyone who goes”

And a quote from someone else….

“2bit thugs! nice one.. downloaded a mix of theirs a while ago.. like a hip hop dj being ran over by an electro lorry”

All in all it sounds like a fantastic night, don’t miss this one!

Raised on a diet of hip hop, breaks and turntablism, the Thugs bring a fresh attitude to house music. Their trademark ‘Gangster House’ sound combines wobbling basslines, rudeboy rap vocals and pounding percussive beats.

Since meeting in 2001, the Thugs have rocked parties all over the UK and are gaining a reputation for their no holds barred DJ sets. Their production output has pricked the ears of DJs, labels and promoters worldwide and  have received huge support from the likes of Atomic Hooligan, Rico Tubbs, Foamo, Tomb Crew, Matt Cox & Stupid Fresh to name but a few.

With a release schedule bigger than the Obama campaign, there is no doubt 2 Bit Thugs will remain in many a DJ’s record box for years to come.  The ‘Gangster House’ sound will be featuring on remixes for the likes of The Bulgarian, Calvertron, Zombie Disco Squad, Jackinori & Kelevra all to released soon.

With 2008 seeing the Thugs stepping up a fair few rungs on the ladder, keep an eye out on the club listings near you for your own Thug experience.

We are so excited and honoured to have the 2Bit Thugs at Magik Bullet. Its going to be a wonky disco of epic proportions. Not only are they amazing producers who have been drawing attention from industry big hitters like Kissy Sell Out, but they are also fantastic DJs to boot. Watch them rise to fame over the coming months, and remember where you saw them in Plymouth first.

Trust us when we bring down the freshest acts that you might not necessarily have heard of at first, but have grown to love as the years have rolled by! If you have a a moment, check lots of 2Bit Thug’s productions out over on Soundcloud and their Myspace is here

Everyone is getting excited about this event! Remember, fancy dress is optional.

February Greetings
